Description

The “Vigna dell’Impero” of the Sette Ponti Estate is a pure Sangiovese produced in the heart of the hilly area of the Upper Valdarno. The grapes come from an old vineyard, a real cru of the estate, which takes its name from the label and houses vines dating back to 1935. The long period of aging in large barrels and then in the bottle, allows Sangiovese to evolve towards notes of extraordinary expressive elegance. It is a bottle of great prestige, to be tasted during an important dinner.
The red “Vigna dell’Impero” is one of the flagship wines of the famous Tuscan winery Tenuta Sette Ponti. The property covers a total of 330 hectares of which about fifty are vineyards. The “Vigna dell’Impero” is located at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level with a south-east exposure, on soils mainly composed of clay, sand and limestone, with an abundant presence of marl. The plants are over 80 years old and represent a precious corporate heritage. At the end of the manual harvest, the grapes are further selected in the cellar, grape by grape. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with maceration on the skins for about a month. Refine in large barrels of 15 and 25 hectoliters and complete the maturation with 12 months in bottle.
The “Vigna dell’Impero” wine from Tenuta Sette Ponti is a great red from Tuscany, which retains a typically territorial face and a marked varietal character. Precisely to maintain this straightforward and direct tone, it is bottled without filtration. In the glass it shows an intense ruby red color with garnet hues. The nose opens on aromas of wild flowers, red berries, hints of undergrowth, humus, leather and tobacco. On the palate it has an important structure, with a deep and long sip, an evolved tannic texture and a very persistent finish.
